Further improving the Environmental Management System (EMS) at ProCredit Georgia

ProCredit Bank Georgia (PCB Georgia) is a member of the ProCredit group, a group of financial institutions providing banking services in Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Germany on a socially and environmentally sustainable basis. In 2012, PCB Georgia began green finance operations with the support of technical assistance funding from the Austrian Development Bank (OeEB). However, given changes in the green finance market over time and internal bank restructuring, which led to a focus on new client segments, PCB Georgia found it necessary to review, adapt and improve its environmental management system (EMS) as whole, including its approach to green lending, as well as its management of environmental and social risks.

IPC was contracted by PCB Georgia to update and adapt its EMS. IPC did this by:

  • analysing the existing green portfolio of PCB Georgia
  • conducting a market review including client visits and energy audits
  • updating PCB Georgia green loan baselines and energy savings calculations
  • assessing new potential green lending segments
  • updating green lending eligibility criteria, providing recommendations regarding improved environmental and social risk management
  • developing a comprehensive training programme for the Bank
