Although understanding risks is an essential part of financial decision-making, entrepreneurs often lack the knowledge required to safely manage the impact of foreign currency fluctuations on their business. EFSE has therefore focused on developing local currency offers and commissioned studies to analyse local currency lending in individual markets. IPC supported this initiative by developing an educational brochure to inform borrowers about the risks and opportunities associated with foreign currency loans versus local currency loans.

The brochure provides clear advice on measures to strengthen a business, including simple tools to improve financing decisions and important information about the specific risks and opportunities involved in foreign currency loans.

Realistic case studies help illustrate financing concepts, while a practical checklist provides an overview of what to consider before deciding on a foreign currency loan.

This brochure has been very well received, with 40,000 copies in circulation. The booklet was subsequently adapted to ten different markets and translated into various languages. The success of this project inspired the production of other brochures, e.g. to support farmers in financial decision-making and help future home owners understand the risks of mortgage loans.
